ETNOFON MUSIC COMPANY

Kiss Ferenc

The Etnofon Music Company (E.Z.T.) was formed in 1994 to the initiative of Ferenc Kiss, who, preceding that, used to be one of the prominent members of the famous Vizonto and Kolinda bands. E.Z.T. represents a distinctive and unique music style. In its longer compositions the band always uses the motifs of the Hungarian folklore. Tradition is organically blended into its music, in which acoustic folk instruments and traditional play- and ornamenting techniques get a major role. The archaic texts are embedded into a written context and therefore are able to deliver whole new meanings. Due to that E.Z.T. proves that the traditional elements of culture are still suitable means of conveying contemporary ideas and that their use is not anachronistic. In the music of E.Z.T. the messages of an ancient form of being are blended with the thinking of modern man thus expressing his more dynamic and way of life, and his more complex world of emotions. In 1999 Folk Roots magazine published an acknowledging review of the band’s latest album, titled Outlaws of the City.
