The teaching of authentic Hungarian village music in Óbuda (the two-tousand year-old district of Budapest) has an over 25-year-old history. In 1975 a folk music branch was established at the Óbuda State Music School. 1991 the faculty became a special state music school for the teaching of authentic village music (probably the only one in Europe). Today it teaches almost every Hungarian folk instruments, as well as folk singing. Its teachers are professional artists having mastered folk/village music whilst collecting it. Tamás Kobzos Kiss is the director, since the beginning. In contrast to the „classical” method of musical education, the pupils of this folk music school learn mainly by listening to their teachers or original sound documents. They learn it from old masters if this is still possible. |
